At a new phase in her life, Yakini Johnson's job is one of many areas in her life that she wants to change. She struggles with single motherhood, her desire to be the independent woman that others see her as, and her voluptuous curves in a world obsessed with thinness. While attempting to figure out where she wants to be as a writer, she meets Kyle Naine, the poet turned professor who brings passion back to Yakini. As the two work to build their relationship more, Kyle is forced to choose between his new love and rescuing his child (and her mother) from harm. Although Yakini and Kyle begin to build a genuine love for one another, circumstances test if their connection can survive dating while parenting and withstand all of their obstacles. Kyle is determined to make things work as he struggles to be what his daughter needs, what his ex wants, and what his new woman deserves, and Yakini is determined to make this relationship work, at all costs.
