The Quiet Return is an intimate postpartum memoir for the mother who loves her baby completely but no longer recognizes herself. With unguarded honesty, L. Hirsch writes about being terrified all the time, living with a nervous system that would not stand down, feeling certain that no one else could care for her baby the right way, and carrying the guilt of needing help while being unable to relax enough to receive it.
