While enduring the shock of his girlfriend's deception, and then being made redundant from a job he loves, Luke Harvey fears he is unable to cope. He goes on retreat at a secluded manor house where he is helped by a kindly psychotherapist there. Back at his rented flat, an unexpectedly generous inheritance from his uncle changes the course of his life. He buys a house with a mysteriously benevolent atmosphere, the curtains shielding him from the outside world. In this reclusive space, he decides to publish the thriller he wrote years before. But his cherished solitude is challenged when the lovely Ellie comes into his life . . .
