Prairie Avenue is a historical fiction novel written by Arthur Meeker. The story takes place in the late 1800s and early 1900s in Chicago, Illinois, specifically on Prairie Avenue, which was known as the Millionaire's Row due to the wealthy families who lived there. The book follows the lives of several families who reside on Prairie Avenue, including the McCormicks, the Fields, and the Armours. The novel explores the social and economic dynamics of the time, including the rise of industry and the emergence of the middle class. It also delves into the personal lives of the characters, including their relationships and struggles. The McCormick family, for example, deals with the death of their daughter and the strained relationship between the husband and wife. The Fields family, on the other hand, grapples with the challenges of raising a daughter with a disability.Throughout the book, Meeker paints a vivid picture of life in Chicago during this time period, including the architecture, fashion, and cultural events. He also touches on important historical events, such as the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.Overall, Prairie Avenue is a captivating tale of love, loss, and the pursuit of the American dream in the Gilded Age.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
