Devo aprire gli occhi e leggere quel tabellone. Ansia, trepidazione e terrore (non paura, letteralmente terrore). Ammessa o non ammessa. O la va' o la spacca. Sì lo so cosa state pensando. Sono troppo melodrammatica. Forse esagerata. E, probabilmente, avete ragione. Vi assicuro però che questa caratteristica non ha sempre fatto parte di me. Diciamo che è un effetto collaterale del percorso di crescita. E nell'ultimo anno, credetemi, io sono davvero cresciuta.
Mi chiamo Polissena ma per tutti sono Polly. Per gli amici sono Polly, per mia madre sono cucciola, per mio padre sono sweety (lui vive a Los Angeles, sapete), per le bullette che mi vessano a scuola sono Polly la palla. Perché proprio questo umiliante soprannome? beh, non dovrebbe essere difficile immaginarlo. Ecco, avete presente la Polissena della mitologia greca? sì, proprio lei, la figlia di Priamo, quella per cui ha perso la testa il nostro Pelide Achille, la giovane che veniva descritta come graziosa, alta, ben proporzionata e dotata di una bellezza che superava di gran lunga le altre donne. La riuscite a immaginare? bene, ora cancellate tutto e pensate all'esatto opposto! l'opposto sono io! ho undici anni e mezzo, sono sovrappeso, sono in guerra con l'acne e nelle prossime pagine voglio raccontarvi di me, della mia passione segreta per la musica e per il canto ma, soprattutto, voglio raccontarvi di come sono sopravvissuta alla prima media nonostante tutto...
