Der römische Bildhauer Antonio Isopi wurde von Herzog Carl Eugen von Württemberg als Ornamentist und Tierbildner nach Stuttgart berufen. Ein erster Schwerpunkt seiner Tätigkeit war die Innendekoration der Schlösser Hohenheim, Stuttgart und Ludwigsburg. Die Qualität der Stuckarbeiten erregten Goethes Interesse, der Isopi gerne für Weimar verpflichtet hätte. Geschätzt war auch Isopis filigrane Steinbearbeitung im klassizistischen Dekor seiner Prunkvasen, Tierdarstellungen und Grabdenkmale. Ab 1810 baute er in Ludwigsburg eine Kunstschule auf, die der Porzellanmanufaktur angeschlossen war. Die württembergischen Wappentiere Hirsch und Löwe - Wasseralfinger Eisengu - stellen das bildhauerische Hauptwerk Isopis dar. Sie stehen heute noch als markantes Wahrzeichen auf dem Schlo platz in Stuttgart.
