The Philippians had a strong start to their faith and hope of salvation but their joy was soon to be defused by the enemies of the cross. Factious brethren were causing trouble in the churches and some of the Philippians were near giving up their faith. Paul launches this epistle to these feeble brethren and infuses them with confidence, stamina, and hope. The Philippians' minds needed to be disciplined and focused upon the high prize of heaven. The Christian today must also remain focused on that high calling in Christ Jesus. To fail to reach heaven is to loose all. My approach to this life is to be that of Christ. Paul said, Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus (Philippians 2:5). Jesus was obedient to the point of death (Philippians 2:8).
