Peter Schlemihl The Shadowless Man is a novella written by Adelbert von Chamisso. The story follows the protagonist, Peter Schlemihl, who has lost his shadow after making a deal with a mysterious man. As a result, he is ostracized by society and becomes a wanderer. He meets a wealthy man who takes him in and introduces him to his daughter, Mina. Peter falls in love with Mina, but their relationship is threatened by his lack of a shadow. The story explores themes of identity, social acceptance, and the consequences of making deals with the devil. The novella is considered a classic of German Romantic literature and has been adapted into various forms of media, including films and operas.I had long secretly felt uneasy--indeed, almost horrified; but how was this feeling increased when, at the next wish expressed, I saw him take from his pocket three horses! Yes, Adelbert, three large beautiful steeds, with saddles and bridles, out of the very pocket whence had already issued a letter-case, a telescope, a carpet twenty feet broad and ten in length, and a pavilion of the same extent, with all its appurtenances! This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
