I'm tired in a way that sleep can't fix. - Cold Truth
Perspectives: Through the Looking Glass invites the reader to challenge his or her expectations of what makes poetry. Aylah Birks uses a combination of rhyming and free verse poems, mini-essays, narratives, and well-known quotes to help the reader get more from her chapter themes. It is the merging of poetry and personal stories crafted to explore truth and beauty through various perspectives.
Birks would like you to see this as:
- an opportunity to question your own beliefs and opinions within the storylines, plots, and language
- the intersection of racism, self-confidence, nature, and emotion
- an invitation to attempt to better understand the concepts of free speech through the mind-soul connection
Poetry is known for its freedom of expression. Through Perspectives: Through the Looking Glass, Aylah Birks hopes readers learn to speak and accept their truths while allowing for vulnerability, transparency, and peace.
