Sudoku puzzles are believed to have originated in France in the late 1800s. The basic premise is deceptively easy. Put the numbers 1 through 9 in each sub-square, but don't have the same number on the same line twice.

Easier said than done!

Solving a sudoku requires logic and working memory. There have been studies that show routine Sudoku playing could improve working memory in older people. But that doesn't mean they aren't fun to figure out!
