Due to the trajectory of public policies, there were phases of regression and stagnation in the provision of sanitary sewage systems in Brazil. For fifteen years, there was no legal framework until the advent of Federal Law 11.445/2007, which established national guidelines for sanitation. Currently, most Brazilian municipalities still face technical, operational, and financial problems, remaining dependent on federal government policies and private sector initiatives. Unlike most Brazilian cities, Balneário Camboriú/SC has undergone a marked process of expansion and improvement in its sanitation system. This is a result of the city's physical and geographical characteristics and the public policies that were implemented to meet the urban and tourist growth that occurred starting in the 1970s. The book presents the development of the sewage system in the city of Balneário Camboriú, covering an analysis of the sanitation policies implemented between 1970 and 2013, with the study represented in thematic temporal maps.
