The paper traces the evolution of border line protection between the Russian Empire and Qajar Iran during the XIX - early XX century, reveals the features of the structure and functioning of Russian border services in peacetime. The process of origin and evolution of border structures of Russia on the borders with Iran from cordon guards to specialized border service of officials of the Separate Corps of Border Guards is considered. The peculiarities of formation and development of border guard service in Transcaucasia and Transcaspian region are highlighted. The stages of reforming of the border guard system are traced from the beginning of formation of the Russian-Iranian border line in the early XIX century to the beginning of the First World War in 1914. The main structures that carried out border surveillance, the peculiarities of their formation, organization and changes are singled out. The peculiarities of service of the border guards during the time under consideration are revealed.
