Excessive gastric acidity is a common health problem, typically managed with antacids. Among these, magnesium hydroxide [Mg(OH)₂] is a basic compound widely recognised for its ability to rapidly neutralise gastric acidity. However, a thorough understanding of its physicochemical properties, combined with controlled laboratory synthesis, remains essential to ensure its therapeutic efficacy and safety of use. The central focus of this work lies in the need to produce a pure and effective magnesium hydroxide capable of serving as a local alternative to imported products. The main objective of this study is therefore the synthesis of Mg(OH)₂, its characterisation using various analytical techniques, and the evaluation of its antacid activity in order to assess its performance. Experimentally, magnesium hydroxide was obtained by precipitation from a solution of magnesium chloride and sodium hydroxide (NaOH).
