With over 60 years of service in the Arizona Department of Corrections, both Joseph and Daniella Stemple bring a rare and deeply personal perspective to the realities of leadership behind the prison walls. Joseph served in elite units such as the Douglas Complex Tactical Support Unit (TSU), Tucson Complex Special Security Unit (SSU), and the Douglas Complex Chase Team, participating in high-risk operation and mastering emergency response protocols. While Daniella took a route of Security Operation, Programs Specialist and ultimately a Deputy Warden for three complexes. Together, their experiences complimented each other and helped their leadership to grow within the Arizona Department of Corrections. Their formative years underscored a key lesson: leadership isn't defined by a badge, title or rank. Leadership is defined by, courage, integrity, and the ability to uplift those we lead.
Throughout their career that spanned multiple complexes and over twenty individual prison units, both authors have mentored hundreds of staff and led with core philosophy: be the leader you would follow.
