On the road to Emmaus, Christ teaches His disciples to see Scripture differently.
Beginning with Moses and the prophets, He shows them that the biblical story reaches its fullness in Him.
But what does it mean for Catholics to read the Old Testament in the light of Christ without forcing hidden meanings into every verse?
The Promise Made Flesh is a practical Catholic guide to biblical typology: the patterns, persons, events, and institutions through which the Old Testament prepares for the New.
The book explores:
- how the literal and spiritual senses of Scripture belong together
- the difference between responsible typology and imaginative speculation
- Adam and Christ
- Eve and Mary
- the Ark, the Flood, and Baptism
- Isaac, Passover, Calvary, and the Eucharist
- priesthood, Temple, and their fulfillment
- Davidic kingship and the risen Christ
- Jonah and the sign given by Jesus
- how to test a proposed typological connection against Scripture and Church witness
- how to move from biblical study into Lectio Divina and prayer
Worked examples, a discernment checklist, a classification exercise, and an Old Testament-to-Christ worksheet help readers practice the method rather than merely read about it.
This concluding volume of The World Awaiting Christ brings the series' central conviction into focus: the Old Testament should be read seriously in its own context, but the Christian reader does not stop there.
For Catholics who want to understand why the Church reads Scripture as one unfolding story fulfilled in Christ, this book offers a careful and practical place to begin.
