A Project for a Railroad to the Pacific is a book written by Asa Whitney and published in 1849. The book outlines Whitney's proposal for the construction of a transcontinental railroad that would connect the eastern United States with the Pacific coast. Whitney, a businessman and entrepreneur, recognized the potential economic benefits of such a railroad and spent years lobbying the government and private investors to support his plan. The book includes detailed maps, surveys, and cost estimates for the proposed route, as well as arguments in favor of the project's feasibility and potential impact on commerce and national unity. Whitney's proposal ultimately played a significant role in the development of the transcontinental railroad, which was completed in 1869. This book is an important historical document that sheds light on the early stages of one of the most significant transportation projects in American history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
