This volume contains the Proceedings Of The California Academy Of Sciences At A Reception Given To The Captain And Officers Of The U. S. Steamer Thomas Corwin And Captains Of The Pacific Whaling Fleet On Their Return From The Artic. It offers a glimpse into the scientific and maritime culture of the late 19th century. The proceedings document a reception hosted by the California Academy of Sciences, honoring the crew of the U.S. Steamer Thomas Corwin and captains of whaling vessels returning from Arctic expeditions. This historical record provides insights into Arctic exploration, whaling practices, and the scientific community's engagement with these endeavors.
