REPORT OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE THIRD ANNUAL MEETING OF THE NORTH CEN-TRAL ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS FRIDAY MORNING SESSION The association met Friday morning, April i, at 10 o'clock, with President Canfield in the chair. Superintendent Lane, of the Chicago public schools, was introduced to the convention by the president, and made the address of welcome. No report of the address of Superintendent Lane could be obtained. President Canfield: As we represent the institutions in the north central states, we arc not at all surprised at Superintendent Lane's words, In view of the rapid growth of Chicago. We all recognize the growth of Chicago, and, naturallv, its power of absorption; and that one of its features is that it attracts a vast number of good things to itself. That is why we are here in Chicago todav, and I am sure I voice the sentiments of all the members of this association when I thank the superintendent most heartily for his kindlv words of welcome and our pleasure at being in this city for the purpose of discussing questions of such momentous importance. The president appointed as a Committee on Nominations: President Adams, of the University of Wisconsin; President Swain, of Indiana University, and Principal Abram Brown, of Columbus. The following gentlemen were appointed as a Committee on Time and Place of Next Meeting: Superintendent N. C. Doughertv, President Gates, and Chancellor George E. McLean. The president announced that the next thing in the order of business was the consideration of the proposed amendments to the constitution; that the proper notices had been given, and that the meeting was ready to act on these at once if the association so determined.
