This study investigates the challenges faced by local retailers in Bhatpara, a rapidly growing urban center in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, due to globalization and organized retail. The research aims to identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and adaptation, while also contributing to existing knowledge on retail management, entrepreneurship, and small business development. The study uses a descriptive study among 30 respondents, revealing financial constraints, labor-related issues, marketing difficulties, and personal struggles. Challenges include inadequate access to working capital, higher wages, absenteeism, competition from larger establishments, and lack of market information. The findings will inform policy decisions and interventions to support the growth and sustainability of local retail enterprises.
