Originally psychographed in Portuguese by the medium Maria Gertrudes and dictated by the celebrated spirit Count J.W. Rochester, The Priestess of the Nile is a masterpiece of Spiritist literature that unveils the deep workings of reincarnation, divine justice, and the law of cause and effect in ancient Egypt.
The epic narrative follows Smegrituh, a proud and stubborn girl who is recognized as the daughter of the great Pharaoh Thutmose III. Sent at the age of eight to be trained as a prestigious priestess at the Temple of Amun-Ra in Thebes, Smegrituh leaves behind her humble mother, Tyi-tah, to embrace a life of rigorous mental discipline, spiritual initiation, and astronomical study. But as she blossoms into a beautiful young woman, a devastating passion consumes her soul. She falls madly in love with Tamer, a handsome initiate. When she discovers that Tamer is deeply and secretly in love with her closest friend, Mirian, Smegrituh's admiration turns into a toxic, burning jealousy.
Blinded by unrequited passion and a thirst for control, Smegrituh conceives a dark plot. During a sacred forty-day isolation retreat inside the Great Pyramid, she slips a deadly herbal poison into Mirian's milk. Mirian survives the initial poisoning but suffers a traumatic miscarriage, resulting in her permanent expulsion from the temple. Deprived of her beloved Tamer, Mirian dies in despair shortly after, her vengeful spirit returning to torment Smegrituh.
Smegrituh's crime triggers a tragic descent into madness. Stripped of her priestly privileges, she lives in semi-captivity before marrying Ehnosso, a noble officer of the Pharaoh's guard. Yet, tragedy strikes again when Ehnosso is poisoned, leaving her a wealthy but profoundly isolated widow. Soon, Smegrituh contracts leprosy, the ultimate physical symbol of her spiritual decay, and is banished to the desolate Valley of the Lepers.
In this dark abyss, Smegrituh's proud spirit is finally humbled. She meets Jesse, a saintly healer who leads the lepers with unconditional love and solidarity. Working alongside him, Smegrituh learns true Christian charity, using her knowledge of herbal medicine to soothe the suffering of others. Guided by the spiritual counsel of the magician Kenamun and a celestial assembly presided over by her father Thutmose III, Smegrituh and her past victims prepare to reincarnate together in future eras to resolve their karmic debts. The Priestess of the Nile is a gripping, highly inspiring demonstration of the law of karma, proving that while selfishness leads to the abyss, the Redemptive Gospel of love and forgiveness is the only path to eternal peace.
