A Present For A Papist: Or The History Of The Life Of Pope Joan, From Her Birth To Her Death is a historical book written by Alexander Cooke in 1740. The book tells the story of Pope Joan, a legendary female pope who is said to have reigned in the 9th century. The author traces her life from her birth to her eventual death. The book is written in a narrative style and presents a detailed account of the events that led to Joan's rise to the papacy. It also explores the controversies surrounding her reign and the eventual discovery of her true gender. The book is aimed at a Protestant audience and seeks to discredit the Catholic Church by exposing the supposed deception of a female pope. It is considered a work of anti-Catholic propaganda and has been criticized for its historical inaccuracies. Overall, A Present For A Papist: Or The History Of The Life Of Pope Joan, From Her Birth To Her Death is an interesting read for those interested in the legends and myths surrounding the papacy and the Catholic Church. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
