This is the book for you. A Prayer Life for Those Who Don't Pray is a warm, down-to-earth guide that takes you by the hand from the very first step, and it can be just as useful for those who have already begun.
Felipe Bezerra, of the Catholic Shalom Community, writes the way a good friend talks: with humor, honesty and real-life stories. Drawing on the great masters of Carmelite prayer, Saint Teresa of Ávila (the Interior Castle and its Mansions), Saint John of the Cross (the Ascent of Mount Carmel and the Dark Night), Saint Thérèse of Lisieux and Father Marie-Eugène, he turns centuries of spiritual wisdom into something you can actually live.
Step by step, you will move from your very first attempts at prayer, through meditation and contemplation, all the way into the mystery of the dark night, learning what is really happening in your soul and how to keep going when prayer feels dry.
Inside you will discover:
- What prayer actually is, and why not feeling anything is not failure
- How to meditate simply, without complicated methods
- The journey through the Mansions of Teresa's Interior Castle
- What the dark night is, and how to walk through it in peace
- Practical ways to pray in ordinary, busy modern life
With a preface by Father Patrício Sciadini, OCD, this little book is meant to be an appetizer that awakens your hunger for God, and a companion for the long, beautiful adventure of prayer.
It's not over, it's just beginning. Pick up your lantern and let the Lord lead you.
