Excerpt: ... CHAP. II. Of Animal Secretion. PROP. I. The Blood of all Animals, from whence all.. the Secretions of the Body owe their Source is a Fluid consisting of globular and serous Particles; its globular Particles are specifically heavier than itsserous Particles, and are endued with a stronger corpuscular Attraction, elastic Force, and which receive and retain a greater Degree of Heat. THE Blood of all Animals, when drawn out of the Body, does naturally divide itself into two different Parts, F 4 called called globular and serous Parts, of which the red or globular Part does in a verylittle Time coagulate, but the serous Part remains fluid. These two different Substances, though of unequal specific Gravities, while they continue to circulate in the Veins and Arteries, and have a proper Degree of Motion and Pressure from the Muscles, and the continued Action of the expansive Elements we have just now described, are equally mixed and blended together. The Blood viewed with a Microscope while it circulates in its containing Vessels, appears to consist of numberless minute red Globules, or Spherulae, which swim in and are equally diffused through a thin pellucid Lymph, or Serum-. When we examine a Drop of Blood, as it is drawing from the Vessel, with the aforesaid Instrument, we shall for a Moment discern a great Number of red Globules (as in the last last Observation) swimming in a lympid Fluid and perceive how the Globules attract one another, and unite like Spheres of Quicksilver, which as they touch, run into one another; and consequently the Blood divides into two Parts.--After the globulous Part of the Blood is strongly connected together, by the great attractive Force of its Globules, if we carefully examine the serous Part, with a good MLcroscope, we s..
