Possessed is a novel written by Cleveland Moffett and originally published in 1920. The story follows the life of a young woman named Nan, who is raised in a small town in the United States. Nan's life takes a dramatic turn when she falls in love with a wealthy man named Dick, who is from a different social class than her. Despite opposition from her family and friends, Nan marries Dick and moves to New York City. However, Nan soon discovers that life in New York is not what she expected. Dick is a womanizer and an alcoholic, and Nan finds herself struggling to fit into high society. As her marriage falls apart, Nan becomes increasingly isolated and desperate. She turns to alcohol and drugs to numb her pain, and her mental health deteriorates rapidly. The novel explores themes of love, class, and addiction, and offers a vivid portrayal of life in early 20th century America. Moffett's writing is praised for its realism and emotional depth, and the novel is considered a classic of American literature. Possessed has been adapted into several films and television shows, including a 1931 film starring Joan Crawford. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
