Excerpt: ...considered incurable may, by this means, be brought to a really perfect cure, and with the best imaginable cosmetic results, so that the possibility of completely eradicating lupus is not to be completely rejected. Unfortunately, the general adoption of the Finsen treatment has hitherto been rendered very difficult by the high price of the installation, the expense of the treatment, and by its long duration. None of the cheaper apparatus designed to replace Finsen's original apparatus (Lortet and Genoux, Bang, the Dermo lamp, Foveau and Trouvet) have, despite the great expectations founded upon them, succeeded in surely effecting the cure of lupus; so that up to the present the erection of public institutes provided with Finsen's original apparatus must be considered and advocated as the most potent weapon against this terrible malady.
