The Portal Family is a novel written by Pierre Paul Frederic Portal and published in 1863. The story follows the lives of the Portal family, who are a wealthy and influential family in Paris during the mid-19th century. The patriarch of the family, Monsieur Portal, is a successful businessman who is highly respected in his community. His wife, Madame Portal, is a devoted mother and wife who is known for her charitable works. The novel explores the lives of the Portal children, including their son, Henri, who is a talented artist, and their daughter, Louise, who is a beautiful and intelligent young woman. As the story unfolds, the family faces a number of challenges and struggles, including financial difficulties, romantic entanglements, and social pressures. Throughout the novel, the Portal family is portrayed as a symbol of the changing times in France during the mid-19th century. The family's wealth and status are contrasted with the poverty and struggles of the working class, and the novel explores themes of social inequality, family dynamics, and the pursuit of happiness.Overall, The Portal Family is a richly detailed and engaging novel that offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of a prominent French family during a time of great change and upheaval. From The London Review. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
