As pessoas sempre tiveram medo dos mortos. Desde o inÃcio da humanidade, as pessoas cuidaram dos que já morreram, mas também tentaram mantê-los afastados. Há uma infinidade de lendas e crenças sobre os mortos voltando, e uma das mais persistentes é a do vampiro.
Os lobisomens há muito são um elemento básico da cultura popular. No século 19 e no século 20, foram produzidos incontáveis livros, peças e filmes sobre pessoas que se transformaram em lobos ou humanoides semelhantes a lobos e que ficaram loucos. A figura do lobisomem é tão familiar que as pessoas em todo o mundo estão familiarizadas com o folclore e as crenças que eles transformam durante a lua cheia, e que só podem ser parados com prata e que transmitem sua mutação mordendo suas vÃtimas.
Os lobisomens há muito são um elemento básico da cultura popular. Este entendimento comum de vampiros na verdade obscurece muitas tradições europeias e a maioria das não europeias de monstros sugadores de sangue.
