The Author: Alexandre Pierezan is from Paraná. Master and Doctor in Social History from Universidade Federal Fluminense. He is currently Associate Professor III at UFMS and has been assigned, since June 2019, to UTFPR - Toledo campus. The book: grounded in Aristotle's political thought, much of Johannes Quidort's writings reveal an implicit naturalism, calling on everyone to live according to the natural purpose. For the thinker, any kingdom can be organized according to the precepts of natural virtue, derived from human nature and reason. From this conception, comes the idea that higher beings rule lower ones, because the natural order of things in the world follows the same fundamental precepts of matter. The political community and the power of kings stem from the social nature of men. Therefore, the two powers are independent of the pontifical power, the nobility and the clergy. Alexandre Pierezan analyzes the contextual and documentary conditions that allowed the theorization of political procedures that exalted the Christian tradition and strengthened the nascent modern states.
