Sejm czteroletni, or the Four-Year Sejm, is a historical account of the pivotal legislative assembly in late 18th-century Poland. Written by Walerian Kalinka, this volume delves into the proceedings, debates, and political maneuvering of the Sejm as it sought to reform the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It covers the key figures involved, the challenges they faced, and the ultimate impact of their efforts on Polish society and governance.
This detailed study offers invaluable insights into a crucial period of Polish history, marked by attempts to strengthen the nation in the face of internal weaknesses and external threats. The book explores the context of the Enlightenment, the influence of reformist ideas, and the complex interplay of domestic and foreign policies that shaped the Sejm's decisions. It remains an essential resource for understanding the political and social dynamics of Poland during this transformative era.
