Duschesne county justice court Judge Clair Poulson received a call one day from a Salt Lake Tribune reporter who wanted to know why the judge hadn't given a tougher sentence to a certain drunk driver. The reporter went on to explain that after release from jail, the man in question had resumed his drinking and driving, and had just killed an innocent teenager. The reporter wanted to know if the judge felt at least partially responsible.
[As a judge I see a lot of human tragedies, ] Judge Poulson explains, [but taking that phone call was one of the most humbling and sobering experiences of my life. I've always been tough on drunk drivers, but I began to wonder if I could do more. I decided to write a novel, hoping to change some attitudes towards drinking, especially among young people.]
Point of Impact is that novel.
