Poetry reading is alive and well in Britain!
In November 2005, hundreds of people submitted recordings of Shakespeare, Wordsworth, and Roger McGough in an attempt to win a prize--participation in the recording of this new poetry collection by Christina Hardyment, historian and audiobook reviewer for the Times (London). The poems included here are read mainly by the male and female first prize winners but also by the runners-up.
This collection covers a wide range of classics, including poems by Shakespeare, Keats, Clare, Blake, and many more, as well as two Chinese poets and modern poems by Roger McGough and others. Poems are grouped into themes: The Start of Winter, Winter Fires, Children in Winter, Deep Winter, Winter Hardship, Romancing Winter, Christmastime, and New Year.
