The Poetics of Aristotle in England: Cornell Studies in English, V17 by Marvin Theodore Herrick is a comprehensive analysis of the influence of Aristotle's Poetics on English literature. This book explores how Aristotle's ideas about tragedy, poetry, and literary criticism have shaped the works of English writers from the Renaissance to the 20th century. Herrick examines the ways in which English writers have adapted and transformed Aristotle's concepts, and how these adaptations have influenced the development of English literature. The book includes detailed discussions of the works of Shakespeare, Milton, Dryden, Pope, Wordsworth, Coleridge, and T.S. Eliot, among others. It also provides a thorough overview of the history of literary criticism in England, from the early debates about the nature of poetry to the emergence of modern literary theory. This volume is an essential resource for scholars and students of English literature, as well as anyone interested in the history of literary criticism and the influence of classical ideas on modern literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
