This is Duhaney Smith's second book of poetry and includes some of his works from a decade ago. The book reflects the author's growth and confidence in expressing himself in his own unique way. He heavily favors the use of quatrains to express his feelings on various subjects, and once again has sought alignment with his readers by sectioning this book, the second of three to be published in this form, into the themes of Love, Inspiration, Humour, and Reflection. The reader will discover that the author writes in standard English but also expresses himself in Jamaican patois, and at times speaks from the perspective of his subject. He dabbles into more than one form of poetry, including a thought-provoking ghazal, dealing with the conventional theme of love's yearning, titled, Prejudice; and an epic poem, the very romantic and adventurous, Malaika's Revenge. Also, notwithstanding his preference of quatrains the author includes in this collection, other poems of note, using couplets, triplets, and free verse. There is much use of assonance as well as a definite musical incantatory form to many of these poems which lean them towards the performance rather than the literary form of poetry. Poetry Lovers and ordinary readers will definitely enjoy this book, and will make repeat visits to discover new meanings, memorize phrases and stanzas, and just to enjoy the work of a poet as he discovers himself.
