The Poet Scout: A Book of Song and Story is a collection of poems and short stories written by Jack Crawford and originally published in 1886. The book is divided into two parts, with the first section containing a series of poems that reflect Crawford's experiences as a soldier and scout during the American Civil War. These poems depict the hardships and sacrifices of war, as well as the bravery and resilience of the soldiers who fought in it.The second section of the book consists of short stories that are based on Crawford's experiences as a frontiersman and scout in the American West. These stories are filled with adventure and excitement, and they offer a glimpse into the rugged and untamed world of the Old West. Throughout the book, Crawford's love of nature and his appreciation for the simple things in life shine through, making this a work that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.Overall, The Poet Scout is a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era, and it is a must-read for anyone who is interested in American history, poetry, or the Old West. Crawford's writing is both lyrical and engaging, and his stories and poems are sure to capture the imagination of readers of all ages. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
