A Plea For The Subscription Of The Clergy To The Thirty-Nine Articles Of Religion is a book written by James Ibbetson in 1768. It is a passionate argument for the requirement that all clergy members subscribe to the Thirty-Nine Articles of Religion, which are a set of statements of belief within the Church of England. The book argues that subscribing to these articles is necessary for maintaining the unity and orthodoxy of the Church, and that failure to do so could lead to the spread of dangerous heresies and schisms. Ibbetson also addresses objections to the requirement, such as concerns about individual conscience and the possibility of coercion, and argues that these concerns can be addressed through proper education and training.Overall, A Plea For The Subscription Of The Clergy To The Thirty-Nine Articles Of Religion is a thoughtful and well-reasoned defense of a controversial requirement within the Church of England, and sheds light on the theological debates and concerns of the time. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
