The Pituitary Gland As A Factor In Acromegaly And Giantism is a book written by the British physician and surgeon, Jonathan Hutchinson, and the American neurologist, Frank H. Woods, in 1900. The book is a comprehensive study of the pituitary gland and its role in the development of acromegaly and giantism. The authors begin by providing an overview of the pituitary gland, its anatomy, and its function in the body. They then delve into the causes and symptoms of acromegaly and giantism, two conditions that are caused by an overproduction of growth hormone by the pituitary gland. The book also covers the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions, including surgical interventions such as hypophysectomy (the removal of the pituitary gland) and radiation therapy. The authors also discuss the potential complications and long-term effects of these treatments.Throughout the book, Hutchinson and Woods provide detailed case studies and scientific research to support their findings. They also offer insights into the historical understanding of these conditions and how medical knowledge has evolved over time.Overall, The Pituitary Gland As A Factor In Acromegaly And Giantism is a valuable resource for medical professionals and researchers interested in the pituitary gland and its role in human growth and development. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
