Alexa was a teenage mother of an autistic boy, by accident. She was the damsel-in-distress when she met Edward, her knight-in-the-shining-armor, However, Edward would disappoint her as they lost touch when he traveled abroad to look for a greener pasture. As a US Navy, he would be assigned in Afghanistan and witnessing the war and its casualties, including the death of a close friend, he would suffer from a physical and psychological trauma that would take time to heal. While waiting for Edward, Alexa met Augusto and Miro, only to be disappointed again. She raised Cher as a single mother, with the help of her own mother and father, Aling Mila and Mang Anton, Elsa and Yvonne, her sisters, Popoy and Kikay, Elsa's children, and Myla, her best friend.
When Edward finally came back to his senses, Alexa had decided to be free.
If she was coming back to him was the question posed by the writer at the end of the novel as the writer took the readers to the journey of a woman through her own heaven and hell as a daughter, as a woman-- mother, entrepreneur--and as a writer, all rolled into the personality that was Alexa, witty, intelligent, strong, and passionate.
Each character had his own predicament to resolve owing to his past. Nonetheless, all of them went on in their struggles to love. That makes the portrait of each character more interesting and the whole story of the leading and supporting characters a piece of heaven that is a work in progress.
