Peter Ibbetson is a novel written by George Du Maurier. The story follows the life of Peter Ibbetson, a man who is haunted by recurring dreams of his childhood friend, Mary. As he grows older, Peter becomes an architect and falls in love with a woman named Mimsey. However, their love is forbidden by Mimsey's family, and they are forced to part ways.Peter's dreams become more vivid and he discovers that he and Mary are able to communicate with each other through their dreams. They are able to visit each other in their dream world and live out their fantasies together. However, their happiness is short-lived when Mary falls ill and dies.Peter is devastated by Mary's death and is sent to prison for committing a crime of passion. While in prison, he discovers that his cellmate is the same person who had forbidden his love with Mimsey. The two men reconcile and Peter is eventually released from prison.Years later, Peter is reunited with Mimsey and they are able to finally be together. However, Peter's dreams of Mary continue to haunt him, and he realizes that he must choose between his love for Mimsey and his love for Mary.Peter Ibbetson is a romantic and tragic story that explores the themes of love, loss, and the power of dreams. It is a classic novel that has been adapted into several films and plays.Ah, he died too quick; I dealt him those four blows in less than as many seconds. It was five minutes, perhaps--or, at the most, ten--from the moment he came into the room to that when I finished him and was caught red-handed. And I--what a long agony! This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
