Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc by Mark Twain is a historical novel, presented as a fictionalized memoir by Louis de Conte, Joan's page and childhood friend. It chronicles her life from a devout childhood in Domrémy to leading the French army, her tragic trial, and execution. Joan is depicted as a 'heroine of history', an innocent peasant girl who exhibits extraordinary bravery and leadership, navigating war and political intrigue while staying true to her 'voices'. The story is told through the eyes of a devoted friend, offering a highly sympathetic view, it is divided into three sections: her youth and spiritual calling, her military campaigns and victories, and her final imprisonment and trial.
