Parmenides is a philosophical dialogue written by Plato, in which he explores the ideas of reality, knowledge, and existence. The dialogue takes place between Socrates and Parmenides, a famous philosopher of the Eleatic school. The dialogue is divided into two parts. In the first part, Parmenides questions Socrates about his own philosophical ideas, challenging him to defend his belief in the existence of Forms, which are abstract ideas that represent the true nature of things. Parmenides argues that if Forms exist, they must be separate from the physical world, and therefore cannot be known or experienced by humans. In the second part of the dialogue, Parmenides presents his own ideas about reality and existence. He argues that reality is a single, unchanging entity, and that all things are merely different aspects of this entity. Parmenides also explores the concept of knowledge, suggesting that true knowledge can only be gained through reason and logical deduction, rather than through sensory experience. Overall, Parmenides is a complex and challenging philosophical work that delves into some of the most fundamental questions of human existence. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of philosophy, as well as for those who want to deepen their understanding of the nature of reality and knowledge.I understand, said Socrates, and quite accept your account. But tell me, Zeno, do you not further think that there is an idea of likeness in itself, and another idea of unlikeness, which is the opposite of likeness, and that in these two, you and I and all other things to which we apply the term many, participate--things which participate in likeness become in that degree and manner like. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
