She promised herself she'd never go back.
Nora Hartley has spent two years running from the wreckage of her marriage-from the divorce, from the family she lost, from the ghost of a Parisian honeymoon that promised forever and delivered only heartbreak. But when her former sister-in-law begs her to attend a destination wedding in the City of Light, Nora can't refuse. She'll wear neutral colors. She'll follow her carefully planned itinerary. She'll smile, blend in, and prove to everyone-especially herself-that she's moved on.
She is not moved on.
Grant Thorne doesn't do weddings. He doesn't do travel, or crowds, or people who ask too many questions. His body carries scars from a fire that took everything from him-including the woman his best friend was going to marry. He's spent years locked away in his house, avoiding touch, avoiding connection, avoiding life itself. But when his best friend asks him to stand as best man, Grant boards a plane across the ocean, clenches his jaw against the pain, and prepares to play his role.
He doesn't prepare for her.
From their first collision in a hotel lobby, something electric crackles between them-a raw, unspoken connection that neither wants and neither can resist. He's all sharp edges and dark silences, a man who's taught himself to feel nothing.
As the wedding week spirals into chaos, Nora and Grant escape together into the hidden corners of Paris-through moonlit streets, secret courtyards, and museums where art echoes the ache in their chests. Their guarded conversations become confessions. Their wandering hands become desperate, breathless explorations. In the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, in the quiet of a hotel room, they begin to break down the walls they've spent years building. Every touch is a question. Every kiss is an answer. Every moment together feels like coming home-and like walking through fire.
But passion can't erase the past. Some wounds don't heal with a kiss. And some promises-the ones that matter most-are the hardest ones to keep.
Grant knows he can't offer Nora forever. His body fails him. His pain is unpredictable. He's spent years convincing himself he doesn't deserve love, that he's too broken to be held, too damaged to be wanted. But when he looks at her-really looks-he sees someone who's been waiting her whole life to be truly seen. Not as a sister, a wife, or a survivor, but as herself. Raw. Real. Unafraid.
this is a story of surrender, trust, and the courage it takes to love again-even when the odds are against you. With heat that burns slow and deep, and intimacy that goes far beyond the physical, this is a love story about breaking the rules that keep you safe and keeping the ones that set you free.
Because some promises are meant to be broken.
