First published in 1927, this second edition of a 1924 volume gathers together and deals with Rabbinic metaphors, similes and parables taken from agricultural and pastoral life. The selections were taken from original Rabbinic literature and translated into English for this volume, attempting to preserve the distinctive characteristics of the Talmudic style. They are divided in accordance with the various aspects of the natural world to which they pertain, and contextualised with generous explanatory notes. The text also provides an introduction, a critical summary, and a four-part index. This is a highly informative book that will be of value to anyone with an interest in Rabbinic literature and Jewish culture in general.
