As I studied Matthew 25:1-13 across several translations, I found myself returning again and again to the same questions. I searched commentaries, listened to ministers, and spoke with seasoned believers, hoping to understand more fully the meaning behind the oil, the vessels, and the actions of the ten virgins. Yet even after all of that, something in me remained unsettled, as though there was still more the Lord wanted to reveal.

These thirteen verses are far too important to overlook. They speak directly to the Bride of Christ and to the sobering reality that only half of the virgins were prepared when the Bridegroom arrived. If Christ is indeed our Bridegroom, then this parable deserves our careful attention, our humility, and our willingness to examine our own hearts.

In this book, I want to explore who the virgins, or bridesmaids, represent, what the oil and the lamps symbolize, and what it truly means to trim our wicks. Most of all, I want us to honestly ask ourselves whether we are living as the wise or the foolish.

Scripture tells us that God has given every person a measure of faith. If the oil represents that measure, then perhaps trimming our wicks speaks to tending, guarding, and nurturing our faith so it remains ready at all times. We never know when we will need it, nor when the Bridegroom will call.

I am not convinced that the five foolish virgins were outside the Bride of Christ. Their story raises questions worth wrestling with-questions that may help us understand what it means to stay spiritually awake, prepared, and full of the light others desperately need. I hope that this study will illuminate these truths and encourage us to keep our lamps burning, our reserves full, and our hearts ready for the moment the Bridegroom comes.
