A number of times I just lay in my bed and wondered why I wanted to go driving around the whole of Australia. I couldn't even remember why I wanted to do it. I kept saying to myself I've got to have a reason, I must remember. There must have been a reason why I did it. Then all of a sudden I remembered. It's quite sad really. It just started quite simply. I had to get to Australia to see my Auntie Elva. She's part of the family and she hadn't really been able to be part of everybody when my father died. I felt that she needed to be with us and I thought it was important. I had met Auntie Elva when I was a young child and then only once again as an adult. She was from Melbourne; she looked very much like my father which would make me cry. She was a traveller like the rest of the Lancashire family. She would later go on to talk about her adventure through Russia to China, such a petite, spunky 70 year old woman.
