Off Trail

She ran out of her own wedding. He never lets anyone stay.

Delaney Hart has never once let anyone down. The Boston PR executive can calm a room in thirty seconds and fix any crisis before breakfast, and she planned every detail of her dream wedding at Harrington Lodge herself. Then, at the top of the aisle, she overhears her fiancé call their marriage the perfect press release, and she runs. Straight into the Vermont woods, in a nine-thousand-dollar dress and one shoe.

Park ranger Wes Tanaka talks more to trees than to people. He finds her under a granite ledge in a thunderstorm, soaked and furious and holding a stick like a baseball bat. He gets her down the mountain. He does not expect the town clerk to move her into the apartment over his garage.

He has rules. Don't reorganize my stuff. Stay on marked trails. You don't have to cook for me. She breaks two of them by lunch.

Wes has kept everyone at arm's length since the one hiker he couldn't bring home. Delaney has spent her whole life being useful to everyone but herself. And while a luxury developer circles the mountain, running a playbook she wrote without knowing it, the runaway bride and the ranger who never lets anyone stay are headed somewhere neither of them planned.

Off trail.
