Missy Raber has a new job as an accountant for one of the most successful and well-known farmers in the area. Whether she wants it though is another question.
She's always been the oddball in her community-and gotten away with it, mostly. This time she decides it's time to change her ways and behave properly. A manner that could win her the heart of an upstanding Amish farmer. It doesn't help that she finds him disturbingly attractive, even though he is at least ten years older.
John Adams is clearly far more adept at running a farm than taking care of its bookkeeping. He is a little put out by the feisty little whippersnapper who wastes no time in telling him what a horrendous job he's done of his financial records. As if he needed to be told that on the first day of her employment. It is why he took the inevitable step to hire a bookkeeper.
Her sharp wit and overly confident manner are grating. Yet he finds a slumbering part of him awakened by this impertinent young woman and feels drawn to her. Deciding that it is merely a sign that he is ready-at last-to take a wife, he proceeds on a course that almost proves disastrous.
Missy and John harbor their genuine feelings and put their tempestuous relationship to the test in ways neither of them expected.
Will Missy be honest to the man she loves or conform to an image she can't possibly attain? Can John put aside his standing as a prominent member of the community and pursue this woman who has truly made him live for the first time? Will they hold themselves accountable to the opinions of others, or to the truth shouting loudly in their hearts?
