Out of the Blue explores the intersection of myth and reality in everyday life. With vivid imagery and rich themes, the author mines his own experiences and world mythology to share a personal vision quest. The poems and stories in Out of the Blue take their time. As they unfold, they invite us inward, into memories, musings, anxieties, and sudden pleasures of people whose points of view we grasp with a shock of recognition: the moments in which we find them--on a bus, on a snowy mountainside, by a hearth where a dead bird lies in ashes--are strangely familiar. We meet them in the deep interiority of their self-knowing and are led to recollect ourselves. Anthony's fine sense of character, pace, and phrase entices us from one piece to the next, When the last page comes, the clear next step will be to begin again. Marilyn McEntyre, UC Berkeley. Author of Caring for Words in a Culture of Lies
