This collection of evocative poems based upon scenes in nature are based upon the author's faith in God, and her love of beauty in the natural world.
A beautiful and moving anthology of verses, Out of Doors offers a look at both the great outdoors in all its boundless splendor, and the author's personal connection with her Christian faith. Expressing both personal and earthly devotion, Annie Flint's words are eloquent and rich in imagery, her descriptions of the interplay of plant and animal life joyful.
Many of the poems concern the passing of the seasons, the splendid colors of autumn as the leaves fall, or the blossom of new life in the spring. The poetry within is comprised of vignettes, a series of short but memorable images; birds in motion between the trees, the lively bloom of flowers, the glory of all creation.
In all, this collection is a perfect introduction to the author's work, and to the natural poetry genre as it stood in the early 20th century. Flint's personal struggles - nursing her sick mother until she died, and then experiencing illness herself - gave her an immense understanding of misfortune; Annie appreciated simple things, such as the world around us, more than most.
