10 years ago I placed the label of 'Omnist' on myself after discovering the term Omnism. The definition resonated with me and with how I felt about religion. I didn't want to hate, resent, or place blame on any form of worship. Nor could I see myself conforming to the structures of organized religion, or the rituals of paganism. Science appealed to me, but arguing over the existence of a God which has proved to be elusive to the scientific community was appalling. Omnism truly held some kind of answer for me. Yet, beyond that base definition there seemed to be next to nothing that carried any depth or weight in regards to the practice of Omnism. I valued the fluidity and sense of non-existence Omnism offered. The anarchy with manners sort of feeling I got from Omnism still gives me goosebumps. An embracable, chaotic system, that could encapsulate as much as my mind could comprehend. It was water, but it was more than water.
It wasn't too long into this discovery that I realized I had been an Omnist all my life! I also realized many people are likely Omnist whether they realize it, or not. That too was something I came to realize that Omnism catered to. The simple fact that it wasn't necessary in the sense that it needed recognition. What the non-existence offered to me was the opportunity to place my mind into something, thereby keeping me sane. I started writing 'I Omnist' and everything in that book simply happened. It was me, my mind, my sanity in the format of a book. My feelings and my politics and a fact of my life. Such arrogance, such vanity, such stubborn pride in my refusal to deny who I was/am.
A decade later, I am rediscovering where I was when I was writing the book 'I Omnist'. Talks with those who have read 'I Omnist' have verified that much of my (what I thought to be at the time) trainwreck of thought holds water with those newly discovering Omnism. I have lived very much by the words in that book, and that book has also prompted the reason behind presenting this, 'Little Book of Omnism'. I shared my sanity, now I would like to share my spiritual practice. A practice I had no idea I was abiding by until my head cleared and I could see the light that was gifted to me in life. 'I Omnist' held me together long enough to see it, and The Omnist Rungs help me survive the sight.
This, is my best foot forward in presenting my practice of Omnism to the world. I hope that the words in this book may guide at least one human being to discover more deeply who they are as an individual. So that they may understand faith as an active feeling, rather than, thinking about reasons to dispute it. That acceptance is the answer to so many external issues we are in collision with daily, and that the most prominent problem in our lives is the malady of self.
