Father Joseph Gayle Hurd Barry (1858-1931) was a renowned preacher, prolific author, and respected leader in the Episcopal Church, serving notably as Rector of S. Mary the Virgin in New York. Deeply devoted to prayer, including for the dead, and to the spiritual life, he wrote numerous theological works, meditations, and his autobiography Impressions and Opinions. Known for his clarity, insight, and love of the faith, Father Barry inspired generations of parishioners and readers alike.
